Arsenal has been experiencing a huge success in the past years. Yes, the team had a well-organized and serious defender.
Despite the fact that today the team has depreciated in the field of having a good defense department.
Let’s travel back in the time machine and honor the great work of our former gunners.
Below is the list of 10 greatest defenders Arsenal have ever had in history.

10: Pat Rice
With 528 games played and a total of 13 goals, Pat makes it at the 10th place.
His aggression and composition were remarkable.
In his first season, Arsenal won 2 FA Cups and Champions Cup.
Furthermore, he is remembered for his hard work and modesty.
He left Arsenal in 1980 but soon came back in a coaching capacity. He is currently working with Arsène Wenger as an assistant coach.
9: Ashley Cole
He is remembered for his attacking runs and defensive abilities.
He spent eight years at the club and was one of "The Invincibles."
Arsenal squad that made a run of 49 matches unbeaten.
Cole won the club 2 league cups and 3 FA Cups.

8: Frank McLintock
He was at once the clubs everything.
He is remembered for playing midfield and attack rather the left wing he was meant to play as a defender.
His presence on the club the first silverware in the early 1970s.
In 1971 he won the club League Championship and 2 FA Cups.
The same year he was named Football Writers’ player of the year and this won him MBE honor.
7: Nigel Winterburn
If it’s to consider the best-left backs, he is one of them.
Nigel served on the first team in the 1980s and the whole of 1990s.
He scored 12 goals in 584 games. One of his best goals is the one he scored against Chelsea.
 He won 3 League Championship ('89, '91, '98), 2 FA Cup ('93, '98), and 1League Cup ('93) and 1 European Cup Winners' Cup ('94).

No. 6: Martin Keown
What makes Keown different from the rest of this list is physical ability.
His pace and tackles were only enough to place him on the pitch. I think Kolasinac is the new Keown!
 He was always present when the team is under attack.

5: Lee Dixon
Lee is one of the best right backs whom you would always love watching play.
His presence impacted many games.
He had the ability to use both the left and right foot.
Goal scorer most importantly with netting a total of 28 goals
His reign brought 4 League Championships ('89,'91, '98, and ‘02), 3 FA Cups ('93, '98, and ‘02) and 1 European Cup Winners' Cup ('94).
Without a doubt, Lee is the greatest right back in Arsenal's history.

4: Sol Campbell
Sol Campbell was athletic gifted player Arsenal have ever had.
In spite of spending a short time at the club, he impacted a lot; his reign left Arsenal in glory.
In five years he scored 11 goals and won 2 League Championships ('02, '04) and 1 FA Cup ('02).
Most remarkable he was the backbone of the Invincibles. 

3: Patrick Vieira
Yeah, Vieira is not a true defender but deserves a place on this list.
He was the best defensive midfielders that the Arsenal have ever had.
He was more than just a midfielder; he was Arsenal FC.
Vieira’s 406 appearances for Arsenal, racking up 33 goals and six trophies.
3 League Championships, 3 FA Cups ('98, '02, '05).
Arsenal will never forget Vieira.

2: David O'Leary
He was just a normal player but he was worth placing on the list.
But to remember he was loyal and down to the earth for the club.
He spent 20 years at the club and club record of 722 games.
He lifted the club out of the relegation zone crisis.
He played until his 30s; and sacrificed everything for the club.
He won 6 trophies, including 2 League Championships ('89, '91), 2 FA Cups ('79, '93) and 2 League Cups ('87, '93).
David is Arsenal's all-timers.

1: Tony Adams
Tony’s nickname was "Mr. Arsenal,"
People loved him for his work.
Tony had everything a soccer player should have.
He had an extraordinary team spirit and motivated others
Tony spent almost 20 years too at the club with a total of 699 games
He was determined to achieve success.
Some coaches called him professor of defenders.
He was a goal scorer with a total of 48 goals more than an ordinary defender could net.
He was a leader and named 3rd Arsenal’s greatest players.
His reign at Arsenal made 4 League Championships ('89, '91, '98, '02), 3 FA Cups ('93, '98, '02), 2 League Cups ('87, '93) and 1 European Cup Winners' Cup ('94).
It will take Arsenal years to get a new Tony Adams.
